A “hot-spot” is created when a community venue, such as a school or a library, is supplied with equipment to transmit a broadband signal. Local residents are then given equipment to access the signal . This project is unique, however, in that it has a clear education & training focus.
The project is led by Groundwork Oldham & Rochdale, with the support of a wide range of public and voluntary sector partners.
Jump into HOTSPOTS! We are looking for more people to join the Hotspots Project. If you are interested in free computer and internet access, or have a friend who would like to join, then contact the team on 0161 622 2913.
European Regional Development Fund(ERDF), Oldham Local Learning Partnership's NLDC Fund(Neighbourhood Learning in Deprived Communities) and the New Deal for Communities(NDC) continue their strong support of the area and the Hotspots Project.
Over the coming weeks approximately 300 households are expected to benefit from a free home Computer, Broadband Internet, and Training. One-off Taster Sessions will provide opportunities for residents to find out more about the project and be introduced to using a computer. Residents are invited to try it out for themselves and to sign up for free training courses involving literacy, numeracy, IT and much more.
